The YPSETUP utility was designed with a simple purpose:

To allow a Linux user to be able to configure and run an NIS password server without having to figure out how to do it from the command line.

This utility simplifies the initial setup and security configuration of the NIS server saving the user from going through the sometimes difficult task of reading the YP Server documentation.
